Light fixtures, also referred to as luminaires, are lighting assemblies that contains one or more light sources, together with the parts designed to distribute the light, to position and protect the lamps, and to connect the lamps to the power supply. The principal functions of a light fixture are to aesthetically modify the appearance of light sources and to control the distribution of emitted light. The electrical system of a light fixture provides power, control or other electrical based functions such as wires, sockets, switches, drivers, connectors, circuitry, and sensors. The optical components may include diffusers, lenses, prismatic elements, waveguides, reflectors, refractors, louvers, etc. LED lighting offers the promise of high luminous output, energy efficiency and long lifespan, making them desirable for many lighting applications that were previously the realm of incandescent or fluorescent lights. The light source for LED light fixtures can be LED bulbs or integrated LED modules.
