Get style, convenience, security and efficiency with this universal product platform which was designed to simplify the coordination and specification of architectural lighting. Cypher is an innovative all-in-one solution to a myriad of lighting challenges. Whether lighting a path, accenting a colonnade, or grazing an expansive wall, the outdoor wall sconce provides lighting specifiers and designers to create uniform and consistent solution for a wide variety of applications with a plethora of options available in a single luminaire.
Cypher's convertible wall sconce is designed around a robust LED light engine which can be paired with interchangeable optics and fascia panels to deliver an unprecedented level of design flexibility. Scalable light outputs, configurable light distributions, aesthetic faceplate flexibility and compelling light control combine to provide an architecturally adaptive wall lighting solution. Integrating excellence in LED technology with a durable, weatherproof construction, Cypher is futureproof and versatile to fulfill all aesthetic and performance needs as well as to meet the most stringent of sustainable building standards today. Its clean luminaire styling exudes a contemporary flair that complements a multitude of residential, hospitality and commercial exteriors, including pedestrian areas, doorways, parks, patios and gardens.
The luminaire is engineered to fully exploit the high reliability, long lifetime and energy savings potential of the high quality LEDs and guarantee maintenance-free operation for a period that lasts beyond Hubbell's confident 5-year manufacturer warranty. The LED light engine is available in two housing sizes - the small 9" Accent scale, 1,500 or 2,500 nominal lumen packages; and the large 14" Pedestrian scale, 2,500, 3,500 or 4,500 nominal lumen packages. These high efficacy LEDs produce 70 or 80 CRI light with color temperatures available in bright white (5000K), neutral white (4000K) and warm white (3000K) options. Tight ANSI color binning ensures superior luminaire-to-luminaire color consistency. LEDs are mounted to a metal-core printed circuit board assembly (MCPCB) with high reliability interconnects to endure thermal cycling. The PCB has a uniform conformal coating over the board surface and electrical features. The LED assembly is thermally interfaced with the die cast housing which is fabricated from 5052-H32 aluminum alloy for maximal heat dissipation.
Clear injection molded PMMA acrylic lenses provide precise optical control for the LED light source. Cypher is the only wall sconce capable of true IES distributions which include Type I, Type II, Type III, Type IV, 60° wall graze, 15° spot/column, and pencil beam – from downlight only to 50/50, 90/10, 70/10/10/10, or even 25/25/25/25 split distributions. A complete suite of light patterns and configurable combination of narrow and wide beam optics enable lighting designers to provide striking accents for exterior facades as well as low BUG rating illumination for comfort and security. Cypher also offers front side decorative lighting using an additional RGBW or static white LED module. The acrylic lens module is recessed to shield each LED optic across the length of the aperture and sealed to the housing for an IP66 ingress protection rating. An impact resistant 5/32” tempered glass provides durable protection for the optical assembly. This glass lens in an optionally frosted finish also functions as diffuser to provide a soft pool of light for diffused Type 1, 2, 3, 4 illumination.
The LED modules are operated by a built-in LED driver which accepts 120-277V voltage sensing input or optional 347VAC / 480VAC input. The driver provides excellent load regulation with low total harmonic distortion (THD>0.90) and a high power factor (PF<20%). It resides in the light engine and is in direct contact with the die-cast aluminum housing across the entire surface area for efficient thermal transfer. The driver is rated for operation in -40°C to 40°C ambient environments. Both the driver and optical array have integral thermal protection that will dim the luminaire upon detection of temperatures in excess of 85°C. This UL recognized driver has a surge current rating of 10,000 Amps using the industry standard 8/20uSec wave and surge rating of 372J. Compatible dimming systems include Lutron Diva AVTV, Lutron Nova NFTV and NTFTV. The light engine can be optionally powered by an integral battery backup which providing a minimum 90 minutes of emergency lighting in the absence of normal AC power. High temperature fuse holders are factory installed inside the fixture housing. Hubbell's sensor control programmable (SCP) accessory enables any wall mounted luminaire, in excess of 30 watts, to meet California Title 24 requirements with integral 10KA surge protection for added reliability and serviceability.
Cypher's versatile design aesthetics are provided by a wide range of fascia panels made of stainless steel, copper, or custom materials in full panel, open panel, 4-square panel, and perforated panel design. A choice of form factors including triangle/wedge, rounded edge, radius curve, circle, flat and cylinder provides unprecedented facade adaptability to match any architectural style. Dozens of finish options enable the luminaires to blend seamlessly with any architecture. Available finish colors include antique green, black, matte black, corten, dark bronze, dark green, graphite, light grey, matte aluminum, metallic bronze, medium grey, titanium, verde blue, weathered bronze, arctic white, seafoam, shamrock, salt and pepper, and weathered copper. A tightly controlled multi-stage process ensures the luminaire's metal surfaces are super protected by a durable TGIC thermoset powder coat finish that provides superior resistance to exterior corrosion and weathering for maximum retention of gloss and luster. Cypher has a 'Ghost Fascia' version which allows for on-site materials like stucco, stone, or tile to be applied directly over the fixture, seamlessly blending the form into the existing architecture.
Cypher provides a host of control solutions to maximize energy savings and enhance lighting effects. Photocontrol which can be factory installed inside the housing with a fully gasketed sensor on the side wall offers daylight harvesting capability. The programmable occupancy sensor uses passive infrared (PIR) sensing technology that reacts to changes in infrared energy (moving body heat) within the coverage area. Wireless enabled luminaires support bi-directional radio frequency (RF) communications utilizing IEEE 802.15.4 which operates in the 2.4GHZ ISM band with a transmission distance up to 1000 feet. Hubbell Control Solution’s wiSCAPE™ in-fixture wireless RF module allows an individual fixture to be managed, monitored and metered over a robust 2.4GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) certified meshed radio signal. This feature drastically simplifies control and automation of projects, especially in retrofit environments, and challenges the legacy world of wired-systems. The optional RGBW luminous front is controlled via Bluetooth or DMX. The Bluetooth module built into driver enables adjustment of luminous front color when paired with Hubbell Remote App via a smartphone or tablet device.
Junction boxes for Cypher wall sconces come standard with a zinc-plated, quick-mount plate that mounts directly to a 4” J-Box. A one-piece EPDM gasket on back side of plate seals the luminaire to a wall surface tightly to prevent entry of moisture and particulates. Cypher attaches by two Allen-head hidden fasteners for tamper resistance. An optional die-cast mounting adapter allows for surface conduit and through branch wiring.
